Originally conceived as an elegant residential complex that even housed a Jewish bath, it witnessed the city’s turn of the century boom and the upheavals that followed. In the early 2000s, a careful restoration preserved its character while preparing it for a new chapter, and in 2009 the property reopened as Hotel President with interiors that honor its past and a location just steps from the Hungarian Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, and the Danube.
Adding a modern diplomatic note to its story, the hotel’s Presidential Suite was designed to meet NATO security standards, including protective features such as bulletproof windows. The former rooftop helicopter landing pad has been reimagined as a rooftop terrace offering sweeping views over the Parliament, the Danube, and St. Stephen’s Basilica.
